We were drawn in a group of 5 along with Stanford,Maldon,Thurrock and Burnham.First game was against Stanford who put up a good first half display before being defeated 35-15 a slow start from Braintree but second half their power shone through and they eased away from their opponents, second game was against Maldon who having played them earlier in the year were quite a surprise as they must be the most improved side we have seen but eventually we run out winners 25-10 next up came Burnham who really could not match Braintree on the pitch with the boys recording a 30-0 victory and last game was Thurrock who were fairly unlucky to be meeting a fully revved up Braintree who again had a resounding victory 35-0.These results ensured us top place in our group and a place in the Cup semi-final.
Our semi-final opponents were host club Southend and a fairly nervous Braintree (this is where we fell last year)took to the field the first exchanges were fairly even but second half Braintree's defensive ability shut down Southend and we were able to win through to the final, score 25-15.
The final was played in extreme weather and was kicking off 6 hours after the boys first game had started,a long day by anyone's standards. Our opponents were Brentwood and the nerves had gone, no team was going to stop them and from the off they were into the opposition not letting them have any space at all.All the training, support play, passing before the tag,and even some set piece moves were too much for our opponents and we won the final to become champions 35-10.
A fantastic day for all the boys and we would like to thank all of our army of supporters for their encouragement throughout the day,but also their sportsmanlike attitude to the day you were a credit to the club.
Essex Champions!! (just wanted to type it again)
