A Basildon team returned to Braintree having been comfortably beaten 4 weeks ago in a commanding Braintree performance. Today, Basildon had the upper hand in size but again it was B’tree that showed the ability. With the game under way, quickly B’tree showed that with ball in hand they could attack with real purpose, and always looked likely to score. An opening try by B’tree centre Thomas Waller soon led to another, after No.8 Elliott Voke picked up from a scrum and powered his way over from 5 meters out. Try as Basildon did to test the home teams defence, they just couldn’t find a way through. A determined run by fullback Ethan Scherer, converted by Noah Collar finished the half.
The game resumed, and from all B’tree’s endeavour strangely they failed to add to the Score. With most of the possession mistakes crept into the home teams game, also unnecessary penalties meant just as momentum was building they gave away the ball. But on a positive, B’tree managed to stop Basildon from looking likely to score throughout the match.
The final score of 17 – 0 was a solid win in cold conditions.
Tries - T. Waller (1), E.Voke (1), E.Scherer (1)
